MEETING OF RESPONDING TO THE WORLD CEREBRAL PALSY DAY AND LAUNCHING THE GREEN CAMPAIGN GO GREEN 4CP

On Tuesday Morning, October 6th, 2020, at the 3rd floor Hall- Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (1 Lieu Giai Str, Ha Noi), Viet Nam Federation For Disabled and Cerebral Palsy Family Association Vietnam held a solemn meeting responding to the World Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day October 6th and launching the Green Campaign GoGreen4CP.

The meeting welcomed the presence of many representatives and organizations:

  • Pham Thi Hai Ha- Deputy Director-General of State Department for Social Development, The Ministry of Labor- Invalids and Social Affairs.
  • Nguyen Thi Quy Suu- Deputy Director of Inclusive Education, Primary Education Department
  • Dao Thu Huong- UNDP Vietnam Representative
  • Dang Van Thanh- Permanent Vice Chairman of Viet Nam Federation For Disabled.
  • Second Degree Specialist- Dr. Trinh Quang Dung- Head of Rehabilitation Department, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital
  • Hoang Khanh Chi- Head of Pediatrics, Ha Noi Rehabilitation Hospital
  • Representatives of organizations for disabled, rehabilitation centers, special education centers, news and press agencies, and other organizations, enterprises accompanied the cerebral palsy community.
  • And we also welcomed more than 300 CP parents to join the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Dinh Thi Lan Anh- Chairwoman of CPFAV gave a welcome speech on the World Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day on 6/10/2020 and highlighted the Association’s achievements in building up the association’s activities and developing the Cerebral Community in Vietnam.  After 3 years, from a small group on Facebook, the Association has grown rapidly and become an official organization of cerebral palsy parents across the country, an affiliated member of Viet Nam Federation For Disabled, and a common home for cerebral palsy families.

Ms Dinh Thi Lan Anh- Chairwoman of Cerebral Palsy Family Association Vietnam gave a CPFAV’s welcoming speech.

At the meeting, Ms. Dinh Thi Lan Anh also announced to launch the Movement Go Green 4 CP- the movement of spreading green- the symbol color of the first cerebral palsy community in Vietnam since 2020.

In the speech at the opening of the meeting, Mr. Dang Van Thanh- Permanent Vice Chairman of Viet Nam Federation For Disabled said that cerebral palsy is the most common disability in children, however, we still lack knowledge of this disease and its causes globally, even in the medical field. In addition, many children and adults with cerebral palsy have a high risk of being abused and abandoned due to the shortage of community sympathy, understanding, and compassion, and due to the shortage of opportunities given to them to improve their well-being.

World Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day (World Cerebral Palsy Day 6/10), aimed at raising awareness of cerebral palsy. World CP Day is the opportunity for the whole world to recognize and share with 17 million people worldwide who are living with cerebral palsy. On 6/10 every year, people, families, and organizations commemorate this event by sharing stories, holding events, and wearing green outfits. Green is associated with the germ of life and it represents the bright and innovated life.

Mr. Thanh emphasized: “ Over many generations, people cannot be prevented from being developed and having an independent and bright life despite being affected by cerebral palsy.

Ms. Pham Thi Hai Ha- Deputy Director-General of State Department for Social Development, The Ministry of Labor- Invalids and Social Affairs also shared her emotions in the meeting. She highly appreciated the achievements that the campaign has brought not only to the cerebral palsy children but also to all of us to have more awareness about cerebral palsy. She believed that there will be more ideas to improve media efficiency which can help to fulfill the rights for cerebral palsy. She also appreciated CPFAV activities because the association’s works, as well as its goals are humanistic and noble.

At the meeting, Mr. Dang Van Thanh and Ms. Pham Thi Hai Ha represented sponsors gave 10 specialized wheelchairs for Vietnamese CP children. These wheelchairs were posture supporting wheelchairs for CP children who can control head and neck well, the wheelchairs help them improve their posture and feel convenient in daily life.

At the meeting, cerebral palsy family received the caring and sharing from the distinguished guests, representatives from international organizations in Vietnam, hospitals, rehabilitation centers for cerebral palsy. Their caring and sharing are the sources of motivation for the community of cerebral palsy families in Vietnam. They can help the families overcome the obstacles in life to accompany their children in care and rehabilitation treatment, feel confident for social inclusion.

On the occasion of the meeting responded to the World CP Day 6/10, Viet Nam Federation For Disabled presented the certificates to organizations and individuals who ” have contributed to the rehabilitation and social inclusion for cerebral palsy”.

The meeting received much support from individuals and organizations with the contributions of music performances and the Go Green green cards given from the students of Ha Noi Oxford School.

Also at the meeting, Vietnam cerebral palsy community honored Nguyen Mai Anh- a sophomore of Hanoi Law University- to be the inspirer of Green World in 2020. On behalf of the community, Ms. Dinh Thi Lan Anh- Chairwoman of CPFAV announced and gave green honorable wreath to the inspirer of the community.

The meeting ended to open the new stage for CP community when the Association has received more attention from other organizations and the sharing from society, and to mark the beginning of Go Green 4 CP campaign- the green campaign for people living with cerebral palsy in Vietnam.
